About IIT Bombay Racing

Set up in 2008, IIT Bombay Racing is a student team at the fore-front of Indian amateur motor-sport. In designing and engineering amateur high performance race cars, the team competes against globally reputed universities on international platforms. Summoned with a common passion for engineering and racing, nearly 60 students from the echanical, Aerospace and Electrical Engineering departments have been working relentlessly towards the design and manufacturing of race cars. Innovation and experimentation are key drivers for the team which strives for excellence in the engineering of its vehicles.

Since ‘08, the team developed 4 race cars and has competed in 3 international competitions. It was awarded the SAE Perseverance Award at the Formula Student (http://www.formulastudent.com/default)
competition in Michigan USA, by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International). It has also won trophies across the board at several national automotive competitions like Baja SAE (http://bajasaeindia.org/) India.

Presenting engineering designs to judges to industry experts, competing against internationally reputed universities and constantly learning from research seminars and conferences ensures that the team members’ know-how of the concepts and practices in automotive engineering is of an internationally competent standard. They are well versed with the rigorous design and testing processes employed by industry and have extensive experience with industrial standard CAD modeling and CAE analysis/simulation tools. Engineering high performance race cars gives team members a comprehensive understanding of the concepts of race car vehicle dynamics and expertise in a wide range of modern manufacturing techniques. On the electronics front, telemetry and navigations systems are some of the focus areas.
